Making an Informed Decision

To help you make the correct decision we have outlined the differences for each type of lamp option available.

Complete lamp

Complete lamp

A complete lamp is the entire lamp produced by the original manufacturer.

Also known as: lamp, original lamp, OEM lamp by the original manufacturer, ready to fit in the projector. No additional equipment is required; it is just a matter of swapping the lamp in the projector for the new one.

Genuine Lamp

Genuine Lamp

A genuine lamp is an entire lamp manufactured to the same high quality levels as OEM lamps and ready to fit in the projector. No additional equipment is required; it is just a matter of swapping the lamp in the projector for the new one.

The bulbs in genuine alternative lamps are identical to the ones used in the OEM lamps.

A genuine lamp is NOT a copy!

Also known as: Pro-Gen lamp, GO lamp, Diamond lamp, Original Inside lamp, alternative lamp

Compatible Lamp

Compatible Lamp

Compatible lamps are lamps manufacturerd entirely by a third party company, including the bulb part. No additional equipment is required; it is just a matter of swapping the lamp in the projector for the new one.

Also known as: Generic lamp, Codalux lamp

Bare Bulb

Bare Bulb

The bare bulb is the glass part of the lamp without the module.

On some projector lamps, it is possible to replace the bulb only while keeping the old module. Doing so reduces the purchase cost of a replacement.
Don't confuse bare bulb with refurbished bulbs, they are two very different products.

Also known as: bulb, bulb only

Module

Module

The lamp module is the plastic and metal frame that holds the bare bulb and connectors.

Also known as: cage, frame, housing, chassis

Original OEM Projector Lamps

Original manufacturer complete lamps, or OEM lamps are produced by the projector manufacturer and are identical to the lamps supplied originally with the projectors. The majority of projector manufacturers will use bulbs from the world leading bulb manufacturers (e.g. Philips, Osram, Ushio etc.) and fit them in their own modules to produce the complete lamps. These lamps are produced to a very high standard and in a controlled environment, ensuring that the end user will benefit from the best performance possible.

GO-Lamp Lamps - Genuine manufacturers bulb with a compatible third party module.

These lamps are made by third party companies using the same bulbs as the ones in original lamps, made by Philips, Osram etc. The bulbs are then fitted in their own lamp module.
The lamps are manufactured to ISO9001 standards in a quality controlled and regulated environment. They are put through thorough testing and strict quality checks to ensure the highest quality levels and performance are maintained.

The checks include Beam Performance, Ignition, Voltage, Appearance, Connections, and Runtime.
So while they are slightly cheaper than OEM lamps, genuine alternative lamps still maintain high performance levels.

Pro-Gen lamps, GO lamps and Diamond lamps are all genuine alternative lamps.

Diamond Lamps - Genuine manufacturers bulb with a compatible third party module.

A Diamond Lamp combines the identical bulb installed in the Original Manufacturer’s (OEM) lamp with a new cage. The exacting standards put into component selection and manufacture means a Diamond Lamp will deliver identical performance to the OEM lamp but at a noticeably lower price, supported by a 6-month warranty.

Pro-Gen lamps, GO lamps and Diamond lamps are all genuine alternative lamps.

Pro Gen Lamps - Genuine manufacturers bulb with a third party module.

Projector Bulb Only - Physical projector bulb without any module.

Bare bulbs are the same bulbs made by Philips, Osram etc. as the ones fitted in original lamps, only supplied without the lamp module

A complete lamp is made of the bulb and a module (plastic and metal frame that holds the bulb). On some projector lamps (approx. 1000 models) - only where it is easy to do so - there is the option to replace just the bulb part and install the new one in the existing module. This allows for greatly reduced purchase cost while retaining the high performance levels.

Generic Projector Lamps - Compatible third party projector bulbs with a third party module.

Codalux Lamps - Compatible third party projector bulbs and third party modules.
